100 Years…Countless Blessings!
Reflections on Catholic Healthcare
If you have young children in school, then you know that around this time of year classrooms across the country will be filled with the sights and sounds of “100” parties. When you are five, making it to 100 days of school is a mighty big event. Here at Santa Teresita we have “100” parties as well…
Just the other day as I came around the corner of the chapel, I looked up in surprise to see a large group gathered in the cafeteria. A joyous celebration was in full swing. People of all ages sat around the tables, thoroughly enjoying each others’ company and the food. It was not Saturday, so I knew it could not be the Rosary Makers group.
I continued on my way wondering about the party. As I walked, one of the Activity staff was headed towards the cafeteria; she caught my eye and enthusiastically motioned to me. Pointing to the cafeteria, she proclaimed, “He is 100!”
One of our residents was celebrating his 100th birthday! Around him gathered family and friends, a beautiful sight to behold. Throughout the next day, the actual day of his birthday, he shared stories of the previous century, the stories of his life.
Different staff and fellow residents experienced joy and awe as he told us of the many places he had been and his family history. Can you imagine what it would be like to live through the changes of the last 100, 90, 0r 80 years? How many treasures of wisdom and knowledge each resident has to share with us! It only takes one moment to stop and listen. May we never miss the opportunity to share in the wonder of God’s blessings in the lives of those around us.
