God Made Me and I Am Happy to be His!

Reflections on Catholic Healthcare

Last week was “Jesus Week” here at Santa Teresita.  Seven days to celebrate the gift of Christ’s kingship in our hearts, in our homes, and in our lives.

We decided to celebrate all the gifts God has given to us by showcasing just a few.  Residents, Sisters and staff from all over campus gathered in the Pink Room to thoroughly enjoy a unique talent show.

I was delighted as one of our newer residents made his way to the front of the room. He invited us to close our eyes and reach down into our imaginations. “Standing before you is no longer an old man, but a six year old boy. Listen as he sings the song he just learned at school.”

Pulling himself up to his full height, the strains of an old song danced through the air. The room was alive with attentive listeners.

The short song elicited a generous applause and the “six year old boy” proudly bowed several times. There were also stand-up comedian acts (though I am not sure what to call it when the stand-up comedian is seated on a walker or wheelchair), an appearance of Alvin and the chipmunks, a Nigerian song, and even a guitar playing nurse!

The talents were varied and unique, but each one proclaimed in one manner or another: “God made me and I am happy to be His!”
