Living History
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but it seems that old photographs of the early days of Southern California often leave you with a feeling of wanting to know more. On March 20th, the residents of Santa Teresita were treated to a living history lesson from Mr. Watkins.
A current resident of Santa Teresita Good Shepherd Cottage, Mr. Watkins knows the history of the Pasadena area intimately. A descendant of the Huntington’s (for whom The Huntington Gardens and Library is named) and lover of history, he delighted us with dates and many unknown historical connections among the prominent families of our area. Complete with family pictures and beautiful family stories interwoven, the presentation kept many captivated.
For Mr. Watkins, history is not a dry subject to be endured, but a vibrant story to be told. Leaving with a wealth of historical fact, there was more to be gained than just a knowledge of dates. As he energetically unfolded the history of the Pasadena area and more, one could catch a glimpse of excitement. This was not just a dead history, but a history full of life.
