Closure of Manor Skilled Nursing Facility at Santa Teresita

Duarte, California August 29, 2022

Since 1966, the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles have had the privilege of providing skilled nursing care at the Santa Teresita Manor Skilled Nursing Facility. The Covid-19 pandemic greatly impacted healthcare industries. With the pandemic, existing and new healthcare challenges have grown exponentially: critical nursing shortages, declining resident census and reimbursements, continued financial losses, increasing regulatory and capital building maintenance requirements. All these challenges have impacted the ability to sustain skilled nursing care services at Santa Teresita.

After a full study and discernment of the skilled nursing services, it is with a heavy heart that the Carmelite Sisters have decided to close the Manor Skilled Nursing Facility. “It has been a privilege to accompany our families in the care of their loved ones these many years, upholding the dignity and beauty of each resident made in God’s image.” said Sister Marie Estelle, CEO of Santa Teresita. “This is a very difficult decision, and we remain committed to walking closely with each resident and their families, to assist them with their transition to a new care setting as well as accompanying our co-workers in their next steps.”

The Carmelite Sisters thank God for the opportunity to serve many residents in skilled nursing care over the last 56 years. Although Santa Teresita will no longer offer skilled nursing services, Santa Teresita will continue our legacy of providing high quality care for seniors at our Assisted Living Cristo Rey and Good Shepherd Cottages.
