Therapists and patients experience companionship as they journey together through the rehabilitation process.
Physical Therapy Physical therapists design an individual plan of care for each resident/patient so that each may achieve the highest quality of life. Maintaining each person at his/her maximum level of functional independence involves decreasing pain, increasing strength, flexibility, gait and safety awareness. Occupational Therapy Occupational therapists use meaningful, purposeful activity to help residents/patients increase or maintain their highest level of independence. Areas of treatment include self-care or activities of daily living, wheelchair mobility, contracture management, energy conservation, adaptive equipment, safety and caregiver training. Speech Therapy Any person with communication and swallowing deficits benefit from working with Santa Teresita's speech therapists. By improving speech patterns and/or providing instruction in the use of speech assistive devices, the therapists enhance residents’ ability to communicate with staff, family and friends. The speech therapists also perform swallowing evaluations and treatments, identifying a person’s level of swallowing and recommending specific diet choices and swallowing/feeding strategies. This ensures that the person is able to eat safely and maintain or improve their nutritional status. Restorative Therapy The restorative therapy program helps each patient with pain management, increasing strength, endurance and flexibility and improving their ability to ambulate. |
